Well, from the moment of serious hankering until the delivery of the car was about 24 hours. Pretty awesome if you ask me! Almost seems like a plan!
Now to get my license.
I’ll try not to gloat here (because some of my new friends here in Qatar are now reading my blog) but the ease of getting your driver’s license is contingent on how well Qatar likes your country of origin. I’m not sure if that’s true or not but that’s how it seems and is what I’ve been told. The only other explanation is that it’s arbitrary – quite possibly as well.
If you are from Canada all you have to do is show up at the license bureau with your Resident’s Permit and your Canadian driver’s license and they’ll issue you a Qatari license on the spot.
If you’re from any number of other countries (like my friends here from Lebanon, Paraguay, or the U.S.A) you have to take the test. I think that includes written and driving. I’m not sure what we’ve done to deserve this but I’m super happy that I’m Canadian ~ yet again.
So now just to wait for my Resident’s Permit – and then I’ll be ready to roll!
In this our new car, with plenty of room to shuffle guests around and with all the capabilities of driving off road (oh David)….
- With all the added features, my favourite it that when you push the gas peddle, there’s a response. A nice upgrade from the rental car.
- The new, pushing out the old!
Apparently, being Canadian opens many doors in Europe and around the world.. we have this reputation and doesn’t it make you happy and proud? That’s why I always tell people to make sure they wear a Canadian flag pin when they travel. I understand that the Dutch treat us like royalty. Imagine that.. have fun with your beast mobile. lol
Yes, but on the other hand, due to something Harper did a year or so ago, we now have a very arbitrary fee to pay to enter Dubai. But you’re right 99% of the time we are very lucky.
It’s cuz we’re just so darn polite…
Congrats on the great wheels! It may not have the cute factor, but it has a good wow factor. That’s a nice SUV! We were just car shopping yesterday looking for a vehicle very similar to yours. Mind you, yours looks like the Fortuner and we can’t get that here. Is it the 4×4 model? If so, let me know if you take it off-road!!
Hi Carla,
Yes, this is the Fortuner and it is the 4X4 model explicitly because Dave can’t wait to off road in the desert!
Nice wheels!
Tracie, I’m feeding off your humor! Made for a great Monday morning here in the U.S. of A.
Is gas cheap?
Hey Sandy,
Yes, it’s 28 cents/litre. So we just filled the tank last night, with premium gas, for about $19 CAD. Incredible. Isn’t this how life is supposed to be? Making good money and everything else is affordable? We also got supper. Two foot long shwarmas (one lamb, one chicken) and a big container of saffron rice for less than $7 CAD. So great!
Amazing! Enjoy the ride. Keep posting!
Are you sure it was lamb? π
Gasp! Larissa!!
Ah yes … that good ol Canadian factor!!!! Looks like a wonderful vehicle Tracie!! Enjoy π
